Book Giveaway, Day Nine

 ...but where sin increased,
grace abounded all the more.
Romans 5:20

Yesterday got away from me in a big way. Since I didn't get a chance to post, today I'm especially grateful for the gift of grace.

As humans, we just don't cut it. We stumble, fall, and skin our soulknees in endless ways every day.  We're so prone to missing the mark that it's a hallmark of our old nature:

If we say we have no sin,
we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.
1 John 1:8
Because God is so much greater than we are, the mark of holiness is an impossible one to hit. It's not just a matter of following all the spiritual laws and staying out of trouble. It's all about the heart attitude. The sins of omission are as odious to God as the sins of commission:

Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it,
to him it is sin.
James 4:17

Who can hit a target like that? Meeting God's requirements for citizenship in His kingdom is a lost cause.

That's why grace is so amazing. Grace is God loving us in our lostness. It's the gift of a king who would leave His palace to deliver the dying. It's the magnificent cleansing that covers our poverty and ushers us to the table of abundance.

It's undeserved, unequivocal, incomprehensible, unconditional acceptance.

Now we're free, really and completely free, to serve our Father with joy. Hallelujah!
